Andrea Wong is no stranger to Much & Little. We’ve carried her beautiful products for quite a while now and are excited to share this interview with a local designer that we support and love! The Vancouver resident, along with her personal team, designs and produces handcrafted leather goods inspired by the Pacific Northwest. With a meticulous attention to detail, functionality, and visual appeal, Andrea Wong’s creations are timeless, attractive, and practical. Each product is unique, tells a story, and is meant to age gracefully with use and love.
You can find out more at: https://awbyandreawong.com/
It was our pleasure getting to know the designer in more depth; here’s a glimpse into her life and creative process:
1. What was the inspiration behind the first AW by Andrea Wong collection?
“When I first began AW by Andrea Wong, it happened quite organically. I was taking some time off for the first time in over a decade after working as a full time designer in corporate fashion. I travelled quite a lot during my time as a clothing designer and had accumulated leather skins and beautiful handwoven and printed textiles. I began experimenting and working with the materials that I had on hand. I spent time enjoying the process and creativity brought on by these limitations.
Initially, I started producing bags without the intention to sell them. I wanted to give new life to these beautiful materials that I had just admired on a shelf, so it was important that they would also function well for everyday adventures. I started taking my studio projects more seriously when I had a friend come to visit and insist that I sell her a bag. Sometimes it just takes that one person to encourage you to take that leap. I ended up a bit backwards having the products first before I even had a logo or a brand name.”
2. How do you ensure the uniqueness of your designs against the competition?
“Every item in my collection continues to be handcrafted; this is a slow but rewarding process. This also influences the way I design. I don’t want to be producing an item that someone could find in any leather line. If I am going to be spending the time to make a lovingly handcrafted item, I want to create a unique and functional design with quality materials that will age gracefully. My passion lies in the design process and less so in the business side of things. I enjoy spending my time thinking about specific details like closures, pockets and leather strap attachments to ensure that my designs are unique to my line and well thought out.”
3. Was there a particular motivation behind the need to focus on women’s accessories specifically? Do you plan to branch out into creating other types of products?
“I suppose the products I initially created were more feminine. However, my line has been moving into cleaner more architectural lines which is creating more gender neutral items. I started designing more tech focused items such as laptop cases and phone slings which is something that I would like to continue to explore.”
4. What is the aspect of your business that you take the most pride in?
“After designing for reputable clothing lines with regular visits overseas at the factory level, I knew when I started my business that it was important to me to keep things more localized. I am proud that I run an ethically sourced and locally produced business.”
5. What is/has been the most challenging part of your journey as a designer?
“The most challenging aspect of my journey as a designer is growing my business without compromising the product or the values that I have instilled.”
6. What are some of your other hobbies, interests, and passions?
“I am most happy in the outdoors. If I am on a snowboard in the winter or camping along the coast in the summer, I am at ease. I have worked along side the DTES community for years and am now looking at different ways I can effectively input my skill set.”
7. As someone who appreciates what Vancouver has to offer, what is your favourite thing about this city?
“The mountains and the ocean! In the summer you can have a sunset beach picnic after work. In the winter you can hit a local mountain and have a snowboard session after work – and that’s all just during the week!”
8. What do you hope to achieve in the future, personally and professionally?
“When I began working on AW it was a very open and exploratory time. I am looking forward to returning to that mode of productive and playful uncertainty as I continue to explore other avenues. I don’t want to limit myself to just design but also more outdoor adventures involving back country camping and bike touring as well as community development work.”

With summertime and special occasions such as Mother’s Day fast approaching, we are delighted to highlight some of our favourite artisans of the season. We had a chance to interview Kara Yoo, a good friend and regular contributor to Much and Little.
Catering to women of all ages, Kara Yoo started designing and creating jewelry in 2012. With a meticulous attention to detail and craftsmanship, Kara’s pieces are made with love right here in Vancouver. Use of high quality materials such as argentium sterling silver, gold fill, as well as solid gold ensures durability, versatility, and elegance for all Kara Yoo Jewelry products. You can find out more at: https://www.karayoo.com/
We hope you come in to take as much pleasure as we do in profiling these creative members of the Vancouver community:
1. What inspired you to start your own business?
“My parents were entrepreneurs and owned several different businesses while I was growing up. They immigrated to Canada 40 years ago and have built a solid foundation for who I am today – I have always been inspired by their hard work and dedication.
With that in mind, I needed to figure out what kind of business I wanted to own. I learned how to make beaded jewellery from my sister in high school, and continued that hobby as a young adult. While in university, I did a case study on a successful Canadian jewellery brand – this sparked an interest in making my hobby into a business. In my last year at university, I met the founders of a successful NYC jewellery brand at a conference. Hearing their story, I knew immediately that a jewellery brand is what I wanted to pursue. I enrolled in a 2-year jewellery program at VCC to learn more advanced techniques, and started my business in the last year of school.”
2. How would you explain your design philosophy?
“Whenever I design pieces, I always have in mind versatility (can this piece be worn on several different occasions?), wearability (is this piece practical to wear? Is it comfortable?) and price point (can my customers afford this piece?).”
3. What does your choice of materials reflect about you?
“We use only hypoallergenic materials which means none of our materials contain nickel. We primarily use reclaimed precious metals such as sterling silver and gold-fill because they are hypoallergenic and high quality (they don’t leave your finger black!). Our choice in materials reflect the brand’s promise to create beautifully designed pieces that are practical and wearable.”
4. Who do you create jewelry for (i.e. who is your audience)?
“Most of our customers are 25-34 year-old females, who like to purchase from local or indie brands. Our customers are socially conscious.”
5. What has been the most gratifying and the most challenging part of your journey as a designer?
“The most gratifying part of my job is hearing back from customers and creating meaningful work for my employees!
The most challenging part of my journey is keeping up the momentum and pushing through the stressful times as a small business owner that often seem impossible to get through.”
6. What are some of your other hobbies, interests, passions, motivations, and goals?
“I love to bake and craft in my spare time! I take up new hobbies every now and then like knitting, crocheting and calligraphy. I also enjoy travelling with my husband – we are moving to Berlin this June! One of my goals is to have new experiences and try things I’ve never done before – Life is short!”

We are so proud to be one of very few Canadian stockists to carry Mosser Glass. Not only to we love the product, but we love the story behind this long-standing family-owned and operated business.
Mosser glassware originated more than 50 years ago with Orie Mosser and the Cambridge Glass Company in Ohio. After the company’s closure in 1954, Orie’s son Tom continued and refined the trade over the next few years. Beginning with the basics of quality glass manufacturing, Tom was able to establish Mosser Glass in 1971.
Rooted in fine family tradition, Mosser Glass is a company that values traditional approaches that are moulded (no pun intended) for a contemporary context using primarily raw materials and a six step manufacturing process. Proudly displaying its legacy, glassware produced by the Mosser company demonstrates detailed craftsmanship combined with intricate design. The pieces are impressive yet practical.
Mosser encompasses a wide selection of beautifully handcrafted glassware pieces (see some of what we have in stock below) that blend classic designs with modern functionality. The timeless nature of these creations is sure to withstand years of use and love. Add a feeling of nostalgia, warmth, and elegance to your home with these new products now in store at M&L.
In Remembrance to those who bravely and selflessly gave of themselves.
Please note that we will be closed on Monday, November 13th.
We’re falling in love with this new selection of NOA NOA in store. Around for more than 30 years, this Danish brand is a M&L favourite. Superior quality and craftsmanship, including hand-sewn details and natural fabrics, provide a comfortable yet fashionable element to their pieces. Inspired by the modern bohemian woman, NOA NOA clothing exudes a beautiful feminine edge. Drop by in store and dress to impress with this versatile collection perfect for these crisp autumn days.

Mother’s Day is on Sunday, May 14th! What’s your favourite way to show your mom a little love? Personally, from the receiving end of things, I’d really like to sleep in past 7am ;) and not have to walk the dog first thing, have a mimosa and a poached egg or two for my tummy, spend a day outside in the woods or by the water, and maybe cap it off with dinner at a favourite local restaurant.
There are so many ways to show our moms (or our step-moms, grandmoms, mother-figures) how much we love and appreciate them. If you’re in the market for a thoughtful, special gift, that’s our specialty! Below are some ideas chosen especially with moms in mind. We just received another shipment from LA based Black Crane. This is one of our all time favourite labels in the shop. Focusing on a silhouette that complements supple lines and comfort, the collection is characterized as minimal and edgy. Designers Alexander Yamaguchi and Momoko Suzuki consider environmental issues seriously, and all production process including fabric weaving take place in Los Angeles.
The flattering and classic shape of the Darted Shell Dress from Archerie is so good that we had to get it in three fabrics.
Instead of having the waistband sit right at the natural waist, it hits at the bottom of the rib cage, making it flattering for so many body types (yes, even us high-waisted types that can’t wear most tailored dresses, or feel like a stuffed sausage with traditional waistbands).
With weddings, proms and summer parties right around the corner, these are perfect – so classic and pretty.
Archerie is designed and made in NYC, and focuses on quality, timeless, feminine pieces.
Hope everyone has fun plans for the Victoria Day long weekend!
Hours this weekend will be:
Saturday 11-6 / Sunday 12-5 / Monday 12-5
Mother’s Day is Sunday, May 10th! How will you show your mama, your mama-in-law, or your kids’ mama what they mean to you? An afternoon of pampering? A lovely dinner out? A few hours of “solo time”? All good ideas! If you feel like getting her a gift, we’ve made it easy for you by selecting a few items we think would help make her day!
The greeting cards from Banquet Atelier & Workshop have always been a favourite at the shop, so we were thrilled to find out that they have expanded into textiles! We now carry their gorgeous napkin sets, tea towels, and tote bags. The fun yet sophisticated patterns and colours are a Banquet hallmark, and as usual it’s designed and made in Vancouver.
The shop is quickly filling up with amazing shoes for sunny weather. We’re proud to say that we are currently the only Canadian retailer to carry Beek sandals. These handmade leather shoes are designed with quality and longevity in mind. Even the sole is made completely of leather, and has a molded instep to support and conform to your arches. Moreover, Beek gives back by donating a meal to a child in need for every pair of shoes sold. Amazing! We have the “Finch” style in stock, available in the colours below.
We are so proud to introduce Ursa Minor to Vancouver! We adore this line – designed and made in Montreal by self-taught designer, Elizabeth Hudson. Elegant and effortless, made with beautiful natural fabrics. Sophisticated ease is how we would describe it best. Take a look at the gorgeous images from their Spring lookbook. All images courtesy of Ursa Minor.
Our second delivery of UZI has arrived. UZI has been a staple at the shop for awhile now. The perfect weight for spring and summer, uncomplicated shapes, super cool prints and patterns, made in Brooklyn. Here’s a view of just a few pieces we have in the shop. Yes, we will always love UZI.
Delphine is a Los Angeles based clothing line that epitomizes ease, beauty, femininity and youthfulness. Designer Yuka Izutsu is meticulous about details, sources fabrics of the highest quality and keeps production within L.A. Her designs are meant to serve as a sanctuary from trend-driven fashion.
Hi All! Do you like the re-designed website? It needed a spring facelift and we love how it turned out! We are well aware that a blog post is embarrassingly overdue – but better late than never!
The shop is chok-a-blok full of new Spring items, the first of which we’d like to share is PEPIN, a brand new NYC-based label. These pieces are so fresh and feminine, and utterly wearable. Take a look!
We’ve always been fans of classic, well-made goods for the home that have stood the test of time. We’ve recently been restocked on two brands that we’ve carried since the shop opened – Riess Enamelware and Bauer Pottery – and a new edition to our collection, Fog Linenworks. Below is a bit of history…
Riess is an Austrian based company that has roots dating back to 1550. They began making high-quality porcelain enamel kitchenware in 1922, and the company is currently run by the ninth Riess family generation. The company philosophy revolves around sustainability, ecological vision and social responsibility. Their manufacturing is powered by green energy from three hydroelectric plants and their production process is carbon neutral.
Riess cookware consists of four coats of porcelain enamel applied to a steel core. Porcelain enamel has no artificial elements in it and is completely recyclable into scrap metal. It can be used on all heat sources, is nickel-free, scratch-resistant, non-porous and easy to clean. Morever, it comes in the best colours! We’ve got lidded casseroles, baking dishes, saucepans, ladles, milk pots, and mixing bowls.
Bauer Pottery is another favourite collection of ours. The company’s roots date back to 1878 in Louisville, Kentucky. In 1910 J.A. Bauer moved production to Los Angeles, California where the company expanded it’s designs and colour selections. In the 30’s the famous “ring designs” were added to all manner of vessels – butter dishes, mixing bowls, candle holders, and honey pots to name a few. The most famous period for Bauer Pottery had begun and the company enjoyed years of success. Eventually things changed, and in the early 60’s the company shut down it’s production. As time passed, original Bauer pieces became highly collectable.
It wasn’t until years later in 1998 that current owner, Janek Bonieki, purchased the rights to reproduce classic Bauer designs. Using original vintage pieces, new molds were made. Original and new colours were developed – without the use of harmful elements like lead and uranium! A new era of Bauer Pottery was born and we can now enjoy replicas of the original pieces.
In the shop you’ll find creamers, sugar bowls, mixing bowls, egg cups and butter dishes in all colours!
Fog Linenworks was started by Japanese designer Yumiko Sekine after her own search for affordable everyday linens came up short. She travelled to Lithuania, where flax has been grown and spun into linen since the Middle Ages. This began her relationship with Lithuanian makers who produce all of Yumiko’s designs. She started with seven items in her line, and ten years later there is a large and growing line of linen homegoods – including clothing – which we also carry!
It just so happens that all these collections coordinate beautifully with each other. We hope you will come in and see them in person!
In honour of CANADA DAY, we are having a SALE on LADIES’ CLOTHING AND SHOES, today until Monday (June 27 – 30)! For four days only, all women’s clothing and shoes will be 20% off, and sale items will have an additional 10% off! Father’s Day is this Sunday, June 15th! If you’re searching for ideas to make your pa feel like the SUPER-DAD he is, look no further. Below are some of our favourite Father’s Day picks!
Mother’s Day is this Sunday, May 11th!
To help make things a little easier for you, we’ve selected some of our favourite items to show your mom just how much she means to you. There is much more in the shop, so pay us a visit as we are more than happy to help you select the perfect gift to lavish on your mama (or the mama-figure in your life)! xo
Please join us this evening, Tuesday, April 15th, to celebrate our recent expansion. From 6:00 to 9:00pm we’ll be offering bubbly and some nibbles as well as special discounts for this evening only. 15% off ladies’ clothing and shoes, and 10% pretty much everything else in the shop!
We hope you can join us! xo
We love UZI. A tiny two person business based in NYC, they sew and individually screen print each garment one at a time. Simple, bold pieces you can build your wardrobe around. So good. Take a look at what’s in store!
We are so happy to carry Black Crane in the shop now. Created by Alexander Yamaguchi and Momoko Suzuki, Black Crane represents pure, deep black as the designers are deeply interested in their Japanese roots as well as ancient Japanese culture. Their clothing is characterized as minimal and edgy. All production processes including fabric weaving takes place in Los Angeles, California.
Spring arrivals are steadily making their way into the shop and what we’re getting from Lauren Moffatt is putting a sunshiney smile on our faces. Colourful, vintage-inspired, offbeat yet still classic… for the gal who isn’t afraid to stand out in a crowd.
We are so proud to have FERAL CHILDE in the shop now! It’s pretty evident that design-duo Alice Wu and Moriah Carlson both went to art school when you see their clothing. Their collaborative sketches form the basis of each season’s textile prints, and their use of sustainable fabrics, low impact dyes and that fact that everything is made in NYC makes their work even more special. Subtle and sensitive detailing on each piece completes the picture.
Their Spring 2014 Collection, entitled “Disappearing Object Phenomenon”, plays on the sentimental curiosities of disappearance and reappearance with nostalgic tributes and the wonder of unexplained rediscovery. The collection is comprised entirely of natural fibers including hand-loomed organic cotton, silk linen, Tencel and hemp. First delivery is in the shop, the second delivery to arrive soon! We are in love!
In case you’ve been wondering what we’ve been up to the last several weeks, well we’ve been pretty darn busy to say the least. In January we started preparations to move into the space next door to make room for more women’s clothing. The shop stays true to its focus on well-made, hand-crafted wares, we’ve simply expanded that vision to include more clothing.
This past Friday we finally peeled the paper off the window to unveil our expansion which we are so very proud of. There are still some kinks to iron out, but we are definitely open for business! As Spring stock begins to arrive, I can’t tell you how excited we are about the designers that are on our racks. We love their work and we feel so lucky to have them in the shop.
So what can you expect to see coming in for Spring? Lauren Moffatt, Feral Childe, Atelier Delphine, Black Crane, UZI, Hanna Dorothy, Sundry, American Colors, Nuthatch, Jennifer Glasgow, Utility Canvas, Archerie, Valerie Dumaine…. and more. Independent designers at their best! Got you curious? Well come on by and pay us a visit. And check your inboxes, too – in a few weeks we’ll be sure to have a party to formally introduce you to the new Much&Little!
If you want to stay on top of things, feel free to add your name to our email list here.
Hope to see you soon! xoxo
Christmas is only two weeks away!! The shop is choc-a-bloc full with all sorts of gift ideas for pretty much everyone on your list. Come visit us to see what’s new – we’re here to help you find a gift you’ll feel as good about giving as they will enjoy receiving!

Summer has been super busy. With kids out of school there’s been more than the usual running around, and fitting in a little family vacation means something has to slide – hence the lack of regular blog updates. I promise to keep things updated a little more frequently from now on!
Just so you know, our summer clothing sale is going strong. We’ve marked things waaaay down to make way for Fall arrivals. Speaking of new things, here are some quick shots of what’s come through the door in recent days.
IT’S A PARTY TO CELEBRATE OUR FABULOUS CUSTOMERS!
You guys keep us going… without you we wouldn’t be!
There will be special store wide savings that evening only, including and extra 10% taken off sale items.

There’ll be sweet treats and some summery bevies to enjoy as well!
